General Description

The Maintenance staff performs routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on camp infrastructure and equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Demonstrates familiarity with the Right Choice Health and Safety Program; complies with all safety legislation, policies, standards, procedures and reporting requirements. Actively participates in meetings and consistently works in a safe manner for the health and safety of oneself, coworkers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Maintains walkways on a daily basis, by providing snow removal, sanding as required and ensuring they are free of debris.
  • Checks fuel and maintains generators on a daily basis. Performs preventive maintenance on generators at required intervals. (oil change, fuel filter etc)
  • Notifies the Facility Manager when to order consumables (water, fuel, propane), as required.
  • Prepares and maintains an accurate inventory of parts on site.
  • Checks fuel, water, and propane levels on a daily basis.
  • Repairs items as they arise. (door adjustments, lock changes, install shelving, changes bulbs, etc)
  • Completes small construction projects as assigned by the Mobile Fleet & Service Manager. (builds landings, decks, etc)
  • From storage tanks, transfers fuel to fill generators and water for Camp, as required.
  • Conducts a daily inspection, accurately completes a Daily Maintenance Report and faxes or emails to the Mobile Fleet & service Manager each day
  • Diagnostics of Kitchen Equipment


  • Attends and participates in daily tool box meetings with coworkers. Participates in weekly and/or monthly safety meetings as required.
  • Assists Mobile Service where necessary.
  • Completes hazard assessments as required in advance of maintenance activity to ensure hazard awareness and proper PPE, equipment is used. (i.e. snow off roof around chimney – fall protection, ladder, etc.)

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Working in remote locations and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Regular moderate and occasional heavy physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Follow Journey Management Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • When travelling, recognize and manage fatigue.
  • Repetitive hand work with both hands


Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • Completion of high school diploma/GED is required. Journeyman certification is preferred (Electrician; Plumber/Gasfitter; Carpentry).
  • 2-3 years maintenance work experience is required, preferably in remote camp maintenance. Experience maintaining and switching generators, furnace repair and maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, kitchen equipment repair and maintenance and sewage systems knowledge is preferred.
  • A strong team player with a professional, cooperative and responsible customer service orientation.
  • Must be physically fit to perform position requirements; be mechanically inclined and have good time management skills.
  • A valid Alberta driver's license, class 5 (clean abstract) is required. GODI (General Oilfield Driver Improvement) is required.
  • Required: Safe chemical handling (WHMIS); Standard First Aid; CSTS; Lock & Tag Out; OSSA approved Fall Protection; Fire Extinguisher Awareness; Bear Awareness
  • Preferred: H2S Alive
